The Red Mountain Golf Course...another reason to go to Phuket

A friend of mine went to Phuket recently and gave me a glowing report of this brand new golf course. Well.......another reason we must consider Phuket for next year's calendar.

The Mission Hills at Phuket.....

This is the club-house of the Mission Hills Golf Resort Phuket in 2006. It was newly opened then when I played there but some of the holes were slightly damaged by the tsunami of 2005.

I am sure that by now the course must be in great condition.

Malaysia Airlines is having a low fare promotion now. Bila lagi SGC nak melawat ke Phuket?

Golf for dummies.....

The Staroba Golf Club toured Pattaya some time in the 3rd quarter of 2007. One of the courses we played then was the St Andrews of Pattaya. It is characterised by narrow and long fairways made worse by a severe undulating terrain. Some of the bunkers were deep matching the bunkers of St Andrews in Scotland.

Here's a video of how Wan Husin managed the bunker...

Jelajah Jakarta...Syawal 2008

pak Ali - at Imperial Karawaci , after coming out with the idea for SIGC

pakdokter with Icha at Royale's golf terrace

pak Sirajuddin who has signed up as life member of SIGC with pak Ali

pak ZulRauf and pak Ariffin with 'potential' applicants to Yayasan SIGC sponsorships

Two flights of SGC members made it to Jakarta post-Ramadhan to overcome their 'golf withdrawal' after the month-long rest. We played at the Rancamaya in Bogor on the first day, the brand new Royale Jakarta on the second day and the Imperial Karawaci on Sunday morning before departing home on the afternoon flight.

Golf aside, in our conversations, an idea was mooted that we inaugurate the 'SIGC' - the "Staroba International Golf Club", the objective of which is to organise a monthly international golf tour especially at venues near enough for us to hop off for a 3-day weekend tournament.
This idea came out of a spark from the head of Pak Ali Ariffin after having finished his packet of 'kretek' and fully supported by Pak Captain Roslan Chik who was 'drunk' with his 'es jeruk'.
Pakdokter then came out with the idea that the SIGC should also look into the feasibility of a buying a villa each at the many lovely golf resorts and bundling them out into 'time-share' units to be sold to SIGC members.
An ad-hoc committee was formed to look into this.....
Being Syawal, a month of forgiving and giving, many of us were so disheartened by the hardships we observed in some sections of the Indonesian society, that the generosity pouring out of our hearts gave birth to the idea of a Yayasan SIGC - a Foundation to fund sponsorships of deserving talented young Indonesians into vocations that can improve their standard of living.
Insyaallah.....
