The STAROBA EGM....

The STAR Old Boys Association held an EGM at 1030 am Sunday morning at the KGSAAS in Shah Alam, to present the overdue account of the society, failing which the association rosked becoming de-registered once again. This account was not made ready at its AGM earlier in the year.

The date and time was chosen to co-incide with the Staroba Masters 2010 so as to ensure that the participating golfers would make enough quorum for the EGM. The turnout was beyond expectation. Members as far as from Kelantan came to give support to the new comittee of the Association.

All the resolutions were passed.

Pakdokter was able to catch up with several batch-mates from year 1969.

Close to 90 golfers took part in this 'Major Finale' of the SGC calender for 2010. Held at the KGSAAS in Shah Alam, the sky threatened to 'rain-out' the game, but by the grace of God, with only a short spell of moderate downpour, all the competitors managed to complete the game.

It was earlier rumoured that the 'super senior' batches were to be represented by at least 3 full flights. Unfortunately this did not materialise and only the regular Prof Khalip Raffar was there to carry their flags for them. Pakdokter wondered what happened to the senior gentlemen.

Pakdokter managed to get 7 golfers from pakdokter's batch to participate and it was a nice reunion for us.

Pakdokter played from hole no. 12, together with batchmate Mohd Rom Ismail, one year junior and dormitory-mate, Haji Yusof Abdullah who came down from Kuala Trengganu and newly-recruited SGC associate-member , Tg Azman Tg Zaid, pakdokter's regular betting-mate at the RSGC.

Tg Azman had just returned to golf after a 2-months lay-off due to a shoulder 'tendinitis' and has regained his form and confidence as evidenced by his regular thrashing of his better younger brother for 6 or 7 times at the RSGC the past few weeks. So naturally he challenged pakdokter to our regular bet, convinced he was going to make pakdokter pay for his golf tournament fees.

Pakdokter got to a bad start - hit the first tee into the right forest. It did not help that one of the 'players' in the flight behind pakdokter whispered to his colleagues ' Looks like it is going to be a longgggg day......' After clearing the second shot from the rough pakdokter sent the third into the water and finally putted home for a 9!

It looked promising for Tg Azman, he went 1 up then 2 up after the 3rd hole and was 3 up with 3 to go at the 6th! Pakdokter took a long time to clear the 'irritability' from the comments of the 'young golfer' who did not attend a proper 'finishing school' in golf etiquette.....

Finally regaining pakdokter's composure, pakdokter went on to win the 3 remaining holes to square the match and win the 'dommie' and the 'buy'. So pakdokter walked into the 2nd Nine with twenty bucks 'capex!'

The 2nd Nine was a closely fought game, we were neck to neck all the way and was still square at the 7th hole. And at the start, TgAzman had doubled-up his 'risk' confident of turning the table around. Alas, pakdokter was the lucky one. Despite holing in for a 7 at the 8th hole, Tg Azman went in for an 8. And at the last hole par-3, 190 yards, uphill hole, pakdokter sent the ball to the green with the driver, and the shackled Tg Azman sent his ball short with his 3-wood. Pakdokter coolly collected a par and went home with a total of 100 bucks.

Golf Lesson (1)....

PakHamid Shafie, at the par-4 hole No.5 of the Peransang Golf Course, sent his second shot into the net protecting the tee-box of the par-3 hole No 6. The ball came down to the base of the net making it impossible for him to swing a shot to get the ball out of the grass. He was entitled to a free drop and chose a comfortable spot quite a distance away from the net.

PakRoslanChik, ex-captain of the SGC, saw the action and decided to come over to make sure the drop was correctly done! Pakdokter managed to capture this golf lesson on camera......

use a club to measure one club length away from the net from where the ball is....
then mark the spot with a marker or tee....

practise to ensure you can make a swing....

drop the ball within the marker spot...

take the marker way...

now go ahead and play....

The November Medal at the Peransang Templer Golf Course...

The November Medal was held at the Peransang Templer Golf Club. 32 golfers filled up the 8 flights which teed off from the 1st and 10th holes of the course on this bright and sunny Sunday afternoon. Except for 'Professore' Khalip Raffar, the other 'super seniors' were absent despite a 'special category' being created for them with permission to tee-off from the white box. Perhaps some of them were indisposed and some had gone on holidays.....

Hopefully pakdokter will see them all in the major event of December - The SGC Masters!

pakdokter, Hamid Shafie, Dr Rezuan, Arham Salam...

Pakdokter played in the flight consisting of Hamid Shafie ( one year pakdokter's junior in school), Arham Salam ( one year pakdokter's senior) and Dr Rezuan, a lecturer in Engineering at the Tekcnical University of Malaysia in Malacca. Dr Rezuan was in Form 5 at STAR in 1977 - so he was many years pakdokter's junior in school.

The Peransang Templer ( at least to pakdokter) is a very challenging and tough course. The fairways are mostly narrow and tight and there are many lakes to cross in many of the holes. All in all, it punishes poor golfers like pakdokter, who had already played 18 holes in the morning at the RSGC. Pakdokter lost 3 tubes of 'new' balls' to the lakes and forests of 'Templer' and came home with less than 20 points!

Hamid Shafie did quite well to come second in the 'Senior' category and Arham made it to the 'Overall' winning list.
